An engaging seminar and masterclass programme together with the attendance of inspiring individuals will headline enABLE 08, the UK’s only exhibition dedicated to people with disabilities, seeking a more active and independent life. The brand new event, which takes place in the Jaguar Exhibition Hall at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry on 28-29 November, will be free to attend and will meet the information needs of visitors as it looks to establish itself as the UK’s leading consumer disability show.
With around 10 million people in the UK now classified as having a disability, the free seminar programme, being run in conjunction with the UK’s leading disability charity Leonard Cheshire Disability, will cover a wealth of topical issues including Financial Entitlement, Work & Careers and Education. The content of the show will be underpinned by the UK’s largest piece of research into the needs and aspirations of the disabled community, conducted by YouGov.
Anne McGuire MP, Minister for Disabled People (Department of Work and Pensions), has been invited while Judy Woolfenden MBE will be in attendance. Every year Judy, who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy, undertakes massive personal challenges to raise money for the Disabled Living Foundation and to promote a positive awareness of disability. Her previous achievements include the New York Marathon, a dog sledding expedition across Norway and the Norway Midnight Sun Marathon.
Catering business owner and Westminster University graduate Adrian Carter, otherwise known as the voice of Ozzy the Owl in the Creature Discomforts Leonard Cheshire Disability adverts, is also set to inspire visitors with his What Education Did For Me seminar.
Jayant Mistry, one of Britain’s best Paralympic tennis players and ambassador for the 2012 London Olympic Games, will present the What Sport Did For Me seminar. Following Team GB’s historic performance at the Beijing Paralympic Games, the show is working with the British Paralympic Association to provide enABLE 08 visitors with information on how to get involved in sport. The BPSJA is actively seeking new members to take up the challenge of Para Show Jumping and will be showing video of members taking part in international competition on its stand. Many of its top athletes will also be present at enABLE 08 to give advice on how to start in this exhilarating sport.
In addition to Leonard Cheshire Disability, enABLE 08 organisers Centaur Exhibitions are working to ensure key charities are represented, including the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, the Royal National Institute for Deaf People, the British Polio Fellowship, Arthritis Care, ASBAH and BPSJA (a non profit organization seeking charity status). Around 120 companies, such as those offering assistive aids, leisure activities, financial and professional services, training, recruitment and education will also be present.
The Ricoh Arena, which offers the most disabled-accessible exhibition halls in the UK and thousands of parking spaces, also boasts excellent travel links by car and train. That, together with the estimated core audience of 1.2 million living within a two-hour drive time of Coventry, makes it the most convenient venue for this first-time exhibition.
