Charity
Essentially the BDFA does ‘exactly what it says on the tin’: we are a registered charity giving disabled and terminally ill people, adults and children, the opportunity to share the magic which flying brings. So far beyond the reach - even beyond the dreams – of people whose lives are touched by disability, turning the fantastic into stunning reality, we offer the awakening experience of flight.
Mobility issues, learning difficulties, sensory problems, neurological disorders, amputation –each and every disability comes complete with its own ‘baggage’, its own stigmas and prejudices. Some also come hand in hand with financial hardship: disadvantaged and disabled – a sapping combination which takes a lot to climb out of.
That's where we come in..
There can be no more complete an experience than handling the controls of an aircraft in flight -nothing more fulfilling and exhilarating at whatever age. The BDFA opens flying to the disabled, and in doing so makes a genuine impact on people’s lives. The smiles tell it all.
