The PhysioZone FES Feature

(Functional Electrical Stimulation)

January 2009 saw the NICE guidelines published, which declared FES as a safe and effective treatment for people with drop foot caused by damage to the brain or spinal cord.

Since the change in guidelines – patients now have the evidence to go to their GP / Primary Care Trust (Not all PCT’s are currently funding FES technology)........... who can refer them to Odstock Medical...... who then refer them to an assessment centre........ This process can take many months!  A private assessment would normally cost between £90 and £120.

People want to know if it will work for them now!!

The knowledge it works for them gives them a stronger case for their PCT and / or they can consider funding themselves.  Giving them the knowledge to make their own choice is the opportunity that the FES feature provides.

Imagine if you had a stroke, Spinal Cord or Head Injury many years ago, or suffered from Multiple sclerosis or Parkinson’s Disease...........     How would you know there had been a change in the guidelines? Who is going to ring you up and suggest that FES technology may dramatically improve your walking ability?

Would you like to regain the confidence to walk again knowing that the risk of trips and falls is greatly reduced?

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could walk without a stick – which would prevent future posture related pain which walking with a stick or a splint may cause!

What if you have previously been advised that the technology probably wouldn’t be suitable for you – but you have never been given the opportunity to try?

As a highly skilled team of specialists – PhysioFunction, Odstock Medical and Bioness  are offering to come and have an FES assessment free of charge.  Pre-book an appointment by emailing enable@physiofunction.co.uk
